General Information on Overseas Trademark Registration in Turkey
A registered trademark in Turkey is only protected within Turkey. Whether or not a trademark is registered in that country when it is issued to a foreign market, especially in the case of exporting companies or trade show participation in export preparation, should be investigated very well.
Brand laws and acceptance criteria of the country to be exported may differ. There are two kinds of ways in general when applying for overseas trademark registration:
- The first is the direct application through the patent office of the existing system of that country.
- The second way is, if this country is party to an international registration system, application via this registration system.

- Application via Madrid Protocol WIPO
- European Community trademark application
- Eurasian Regional trademark registration application
- African countries association trademark registration (OAPI)
- Arab Union trademark registration
